As I am nearing completion of Insanity Max 30, I've been trying to figure out "What is next?" I've been tempted to buy another Beachbody Program (because I seem to have an addiction), however, I believe I will be pulling P90X3 from my shelf again.
What is the big deal with repeating fitness programs?
Would I want to throw in a fitness program and repeat it over and over again forever? No. Why not? Well, my body would need a change in order to progress and improve. Just like you don't want to go to the gym and work the same routine over and over for your entire life, repeating that same program back to back to back is not a good idea if you want to continue getting results. At some point, you will plateau and need a change.
Is it okay to do a program twice in a row? Absolutely! Depending on your goals and where you are at in your fitness journey, it may make sense to repeat a program right after finishing it.
How do I decide on what fitness program I need?
Obviously, the program that is right for me, may not be the one that is right for you and the progressions I have made may not work for you either. It is all based on goals and preference. I started my fitness journey needing an intense cardio workout that didn't take up a lot of time so that I could lose some weight. That is how I decided on Focus T25.
I then decided that building muscle and strength would be a good transition, but still didn't have time, so P90X3 was my next program.
Needing to get back to a more cardio based program and already having a never completed before Insanity program on my shelf, that was my next one to tackle.
Focusing on balance, flexibility and core strength was next...so I jumped on the PiYo bandwagon.
Again, I needed more cardio, so Insanity Max 30 had come out just in time....Could I have gone back to do another round of T25? Absolutely! But did you miss the part where I said that I have a Beachbody Program addiction?
Now, I'm back to wanting to build muscle and strength, so it looks like I'm rotating into P90X3 again.
The main point here...
Choosing a fitness program is not just a cookie cutter process. You need to think about the time you want to invest in yourself, what your goals are, what are you already capable of doing or what challenges you may already have, and what do you ENJOY?
